If you’ve been following along on this journey for some time you know that I’m a professional Holistic Chef. What the heck does that mean? Well, currently I cook privately for 4 families handling their weekly meal prep. Fully stocked nutritional meals that are ready for reheat at the drop of a hat. Not only am I cooking up a storm 4/7 days a week, I spend 2 days a week planning out individual menus for each family and grocery shopping. These menus have to fit all their dietary needs, preferences (especially when it comes to toddlers) as well as being fresh and exciting each week! One of the questions I get in DM’s most often is which blogs I use to cover all of those recipes so instead of continuing to list them on Instagram I thought I’d put together the what and the why for my top 5 favourite blogs for meal prep inspo!
1) Cookie and Kate www.cookieandkate.com
My go to for seasonal salad recipes, tricks for perfectly cooked grains and delicious veggie sides. Fave meal recipe: Deb’s Kale Salad
2) Minimalist Baker www.minimalistbaker.com
Currently I have one plant forward family and one that requests 50% of their meals to be plant based. Both love comfort food and this blog is the perfect place to find vegan and vegetarian recipes that are family friendly and hit the nutritional spot.
Fave meal prep recipe: Crispy Quinoa Sweet Potato Fritters
3) Gimme Delicious www.gimmedelicious.com
The name says it all. Every recipe I’ve tried off this site has been a total flavour hit! They have lots of dietary categories and I love when sites give me a 30 minute dinner section. Cooking timelines are probably the most important part of my cook days so I use as many 30 minute meals as I can!
Fave meal prep recipe: Easy Baked Kofta Patties with Tahini Sauce
4) Delish www.delish.com
I love the lists on this site. When a client gets their intake form they list their preferred cuisines. Typically I have go to recipes that I use for clients at the beginning that are sure fire hits but there are only so many times I’m going to try a burrito bowl for a menu idea. This site has great options for when a certain item or cuisine strikes a fancy and then tons of options to go with it! They’re also fantastic for classic comfort foods which most of my families state as a go to preference.
Fave meal prep recipe: The Best Ever Beef Stew. And it’s true, it is THE best.
5) The Modern Proper www.themodernproper.com
The thing with cook days for me is that I'm never just cooking one thing at a time. There’s trays of veggies roasting in the oven, chicken breasts searing on the stove, rice and quinoa cooking to your left. Typically these days there’s also an item in the slow cooker or instant pot because 8 dinners in one day is a LOT of food! The Modern Proper is laid out so you can choose from 4 options: Seasonal, Courses, Dietary, and Convenience. Typically my most used categories are seasonal and dietary but convenience plays a huge role for things that can either be cooked the night before or in the slow cooker! I also really love their 1 pot options and they’ve got meal prep menus on there to make your weeks even easier!
